PNCU holds Clothing Drive to Support BBBS

Posted on July 31, 2017

Springfield, MA – In honor of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampden County’s 50th Anniversary, several area businesses will be holding clothing drives throughout the month of August.

Bring in your gently used clothing, textiles, and linens to any of our branches starting August 1st, 2017 to help with a great cause! The bins will be available until August 31st, 2017.

Employees of The Dowd Agencies, Johnson Controls, PeoplesBank, Polish National Credit Union, and Tyco Simplex Grinnell will be cleaning out their closets and donating clothing in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The Dowd Agencies and Polish National Credit Union have also extended invitations to their customers to participate in the effort.

“As a community credit union, we believe in growing lasting relationships to improve people’s lives,” said Sarah Jordan, Marketing Specialist at Polish National Credit Union. “We are proud to support a program that provides such wonderful opportunities for our region’s youth.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters works in collaboration with Hartsprings Foundation and, through a partnership with Savers Thrift Stores, converts donated clothing and other household items into critical program revenue for five Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

To date, the arrangement has generated millions of dollars in funding for these agencies. The funding is used to help provide more than 2,500 at-risk children with strong and enduring, one-to-one mentoring services that achieve positive results, including educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, improved self-confidence, and better relationships with family and peers.

In addition to providing important program revenue, donations to Hartsprings also help to protect and preserve the environment, keeping millions of pounds of clothing and small household items out of local landfills each year.
